After introducing you to Janis, Anna and Sally yesterday, you now have the joy of the other half of us.!
We are a strong and close knit team, we thrive on a challenge and the lockdown has meant we have all had to be resourceful, suggest new ways of working, offer ideas for product development and give each other support in many different ways.
The girls in the group have started a book club recently….we have read So Lucky by Dawn O’Porter and are now onto Normal People by Sally Rooney. This is a great way for us all to have a chat about things that are not work or Covid related and lets be honest - we all need a break from that!
So, without further ado, here we go with WLS Part 2……
Do you have any favourite games during this period?
We haven’t played as many games as I thought but we have been enjoying Rummikub. We are late to that party but my brother bought me one for Christmas and we are getting quite good! Can’t wait to get out and have a game with more than two of us! We also have a tiny Table Tennis Table which we have been enjoying in the sun (with a beer).
What are you currently reading?
I tend to have several books on the go at once. I am reading The Cows by Dawn o Porter on my kindle as a bit of light relief. I have Michelle Obama on Audible (she is the narrator which adds something special) and I am reading Oversubscribed by Daniel Priestly as a business read. They are all so different so it’s easy to separate them.
I also love a podcast. My favourite recently was one between Kelly Jones (Stereophonics) and Fearne Cotton for her podcast Happy Place.
Any tips for a nice British weekend break, for when the lockdown is over?
If travel time wasn’t an option I would go to Scotland. We have a particular affinity with a tiny fishing village on the Aberdeenshire coast called Pennan, it’s a very special spot and we hope to have a little place to call our own there one day, it’s a 9 hour drive though so requires more than a couple of days! Either that or I would take a trip to the Northumberland coast, around Alnwick. It’s a gorgeous coastline and the vast beaches are great for the dog!
LOCKDOWN SNACK
I have a very sweet tooth so anything that involves a biscuit or sweets (Haribo Jelly Babies are THE BEST) I always have a little stash on my desk 😊
LOCKDOWN DRINK
Tough choice but I would probably go with a Gin and Tonic. My favourite at the moment is a Caorunn with Elderflower Tonic and a slice of Pink Lady Apple – Beautiful!
Have you discovered any new music or movies to watch/listen to during Lockdown?
There was a respectable number of new music releases that I enjoyed recently but so far my favourite albums of this year are “Cenizas” by Nicolas Jaar and “What Kinda Music” by Tom Misch & Yussef Dayes
What are you doing to amuse yourself during lockdown (clean answers only!! 🤣)
Playing board or video games is still a fun option so I do that with my wife and/or friends via the internet, I also enjoy reading comedic sci-fi novels and riding my push scooter into the sunset.
What do you miss most whilst in Lockdown?
That would be, of course meeting dear ones in reality but also drumming with the band I’m part of, online rehearsals don’t have nearly the same energy.
LOCKDOWN SNACK
Lagers also pair up quite nicely with roasted peanuts although I enjoy these very often even without the beer
LOCKDOWN DRINK
The weather has been quite warm during lockdown so far, so I found lagers and pilsners to be the refreshing choice.
As a die-hard Leicester City supporter as well as a Lewis Hamilton fan, what Premiership match and F1 Grand Prix would you recommend whilst there's no Live sports on TV?
I would say the one match you should watch is Man City v Leicester from 15/16 season- 06/02/2016, I was at the game and Leicester beat Man City 3-1 and this was the game for me that made me believe that we could win the league that year, which we did!!! Grand Prix would have to be Germany 2018, Hamilton won coming from 14th place.
You're also a fan of fellow Leicester City supporters, Kasabian. Their hometown gig at Victoria Park which has been cancelled sadly :( What's the one song you were really looking forward to hearing live and what would you say is their quintessential album?
Would have to be Fire, such a great song, really gets the crowd going. My favourite album of theirs is 48:13 it has one of my favourite songs of theirs Ee-zeh.
Do you have a new hobby or fun activity that's keeping your mind off the virus and helping you stay sane?
Just before the lockdown started we got a puppy, Maggie, she is a Cockapoo so she has kept me very busy and with having her I’ve become a lot more active and I’m starting to get my love of fitness back. I’ve been doing lots of walking, started boxing again and with my husband we’re doing a 30-day squat challenge we need to do 5000 squats in 30 days!
LOCKDOWN SNACK
Has to be Oreo’s!
LOCKDOWN DRINK
This year I decided to stop drinking (great year to choose) so my drink would have to be coffee.
Well, thats us done folks - small but perfectly formed! We hope you have enjoyed a little insight into our lockdown lives!
Stay Safe and we will look forward to a new kind of normal really soon!
Helen & Team WLS!
